But according to Chris Rodriguez, LPC, a licensed professional counselor with Thriveworks, who specializes in depression, stress, relationships, and life transitions, says that if someone feels sad for more than two weeks, it could be a sign of depression.

While this sign may seem obvious; but the fact is that this sign is not always so obvious.

Sometimes, a person may get so used to feeling sad that they think it’s normal to feel that way or that that’s just the way life is.

But Rodriguez emphasizes that if someone is feeling down for more than two weeks, they should seek professional help or therapists for help.

2. No longer enjoying activities that used to be enjoyed
Canceling plans at the last minute has become so normal that many may not realize that this could actually be a sign of depression.

Rodriguez says that if someone is no longer enjoying or participating in activities they used to enjoy, it should be considered a symptom to watch for.

“One symptom of depression that tends to be overlooked is a change in appetite,” says Rodriguez.
