According to the Mayo Clinic (mayoclinic.org), the temperature most commonly associated with frostbite is below the freezing point of water, which is below 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).

At these temperatures, blood vessels in the skin constrict to reduce heat loss and maintain core body temperature.

However, as exposure continues, blood flow to the affected area is reduced, causing serious tissue damage.

Excessive exposure to cold temperatures can cause tissue freezing, which can damage skin surfaces, muscles, blood vessels, and even bones.
